We are seeking an Email Marketing Strategist to join our team on a contract/freelance basis (approximately 2–3 days per week). In this role, you will lead the strategic planning and assist with execution of clients’ email marketing initiatives – from automatio and flows to list growth strategies to advanced segmentation modelling and performance reporting. You will manage 2–3 client accounts, serving as the strategy lead who drives email campaign planning, weekly client calls, and continual programme improvements. This is a remote/flexible position (UK or Europe-based candidates preferred, but we welcome applicants from further afield) with a competitive day rate offered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Develop comprehensive email marketing strategies tailored to each client’s goals, target audience, and industry. Drive email marketing initiatives that deliver measurable results , ensuring alignment with broader CRM and retention objectives
  • Email Automation & Execution: Plan and support clients in implementing automated email workflows and customer journeys (e.g. welcome series, abandonment flows, re-engagement campaigns) using platforms like Klaviyo and Braze (and occasionally HubSpot as well as lots of other platforms). Ensure best practices in timing, frequency, and personalisation are applied in all automated campaigns
  • List Growth & Management: Create and execute list growth strategies to expand and nurture subscribers. Develop lead capture campaigns, signup incentives, and other tactics to grow email lists while maintaining list health and data quality
  • Segmentation & Personalisation: Build and refine segmentation models for targeted campaigns, enabling highly personalised content for different customer groups. Leverage customer data and behavioural insights to improve relevance and engagement for each segment
  • Analytics & Reporting: Establish robust reporting models and KPIs to track email performance (deliverability, open/click rates, conversions, ROI, etc.). Regularly analyse campaign results and develop actionable insights, sharing recommendations with clients to continually optimise performance . Prepare and present weekly/monthly reports and quarterly business reviews (QBRs) to demonstrate progress and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Client Leadership: Serve as the strategic lead for 2–3 client accounts, building strong relationships with client stakeholders. Lead weekly client calls to discuss strategy, review campaign performance, and coordinate upcoming plans. Act as a trusted advisor, providing guidance and thought leadership in email marketing to help clients achieve their business objectives
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with our internal designers, copywriters, developers, and campaign executives to ensure flawless execution of email campaigns in line with the strategy. Provide clear briefs and guidance, and assist with hands-on execution when needed (e.g. reviewing email copy/design, setting up segments or flows). Ensure all deliverables meet our quality standards and client expectations
  • Presentations & Documentation: Create high-quality strategy documents, campaign plans, and presentations. Deliver engaging presentations for client meetings and QBRs, clearly communicating strategy rationales, results, and next steps. Translate complex data and concepts into understandable insights and recommendations for both marketing-savvy and non-technical client audiences
  • Compliance & Best Practices: Ensure all email marketing activities adhere to industry best practices and legal requirements (GDPR, CAN-SPAM, etc.), maintaining high standards of data privacy and deliverability . Stay up-to-date with the latest email marketing trends, tools, and regulations, and apply this knowledge to benefit our clients

Skills and Experience

  • Experience: Mid-level professional with demonstrable experience in email marketing (e.g. ~3–5 years in a dedicated email/ECRM role, ideally within an agency or in a client-facing capacity). Proven track record in planning and executing successful email campaigns and automation programmes
  • Email Marketing Expertise: In-depth knowledge of email marketing automation, lifecycle campaigns, and CRM strategies. You take a data-driven approach to campaign optimisation and decision-making , and you’re adept at using data to improve engagement and retention
  • Platform Proficiency: Hands-on experience with leading email marketing platforms is essential – particularly Klaviyo and Braze (working knowledge of HubSpot is a plus) . You should be comfortable building campaigns, segments, and automation in these tools, and possibly integrating email with other channels like SMS or push notifications
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse email performance metrics and user data to draw insights. Proficiency with analytics and reporting tools (e.g. ESP analytics dashboards, Google Analytics, or Looker/BI tools) is desirable. Able to define and track KPIs, and confident in Excel/Sheets for reporting
  • Communication & Presentation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in business English (ideally British English tone). Capable of leading client calls and conveying ideas clearly. Exceptional presentation skills are required – you can craft and deliver compelling strategy presentations and reports (including QBR decks) to senior stakeholders
  • Organisation & Autonomy: Highly organised and self-motivated, able to manage multiple client projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Comfortable working independently in a remote setting, taking ownership of your schedule and deliverables. You reliably follow through on plans and can prioritise tasks in a fast-moving environment
  • Collaboration: A true team player who works well with diverse team members. Experience collaborating with designers, content writers, and developers to produce effective email campaigns. Open to feedback and able to coordinate cross-functional efforts to achieve the best outcomes for clients
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience or familiarity with our clients’ sectors – Retail, D2C (Direct-to-Consumer), and Travel – will be an advantage. Understanding the customer lifecycles and marketing tactics in these industries will help inform stronger email strategies
  • Adaptability: Flexible and quick to adapt to new tools, client industries, and campaign objectives. Enthusiastic about continuous learning in the email marketing space, whether it’s mastering new platform features or trying innovative campaign approaches
  • Education: A relevant degree in Marketing, Business, Communications or related field is beneficial but real-world experience and proven skills are what we value most
